”The Speech (Nutuk), which relates events in the Turkish National War, the founding of the Turkish Republic, and the carrying out of revolutionary reforms, is a work the founder of the Turkish Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, wrote and left to history. This masterpiece from Atatürk’s own pen was given the title The Speech as it was based upon a 36-and-a-half-hour speech delivered by Atatürk over six days at the Second General Assembly of the Republican People’s Party in Ankara between 15-20 October 1927. Later, this valuable documentary source was given the title The Great Speech. In addition to Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s notes that have been left for future historians and the documents that these notes are based upon, this edition of The Great Speech includes maps depicting the division of the Ottoman State envisaged in the 1918 Mudros Armistice and the 1920 Treaty of Sevres, and major battles of the Turkish National War.”
