”The Slovene nation has always been a part of western-European civilization and has managed to preserve its unique culture and language through the centuries after losing its own state in the early middle ages. The Slovene language represents the foundation of the nation’s unification and development. From the second part of the 19th century onwards, the Slovene political movement began to establish demands for Slovene autonomy, first within the Habsburg monarchy and then after World War I, in the state of Yugoslavia. Slovene efforts finally bore fruit in 1991, when the sovereign state of Slovenia was founded. In the second edition, A Brief History of Slovenia offers a survey of the historical development of Slovenia and is intended for foreigners; students, politicians, business people and anyone interested in learning more about Slovenia.”
